This was Cher Lloyd's 2nd ever US performance held at the W Hotel and taking one look around I thought these people don't really know this girl but was hoping they would embrace her anyway.
The crowd moves right in as she hops on stage. She starts singing and no words are coming out. I'm practically on the stage and all I can hear is a whisper. At first I thought the sound must be going to the back of the room because no one was doing anything about it. Then two songs later they tell Cher to CUT in the middle of her song and say that's the end of the show because of sound issues. No kidding Sherlock. I couldn't believe they let her sing three whole songs in silence! She handled it with a good sense of English humour and off she went. The next band was ushered on to set up before Cher's boots even hit the runway. That's the game of SXSW. IN and OUT.
One of my favorite discoveries of SXSW was Kimbra, even though I sort of knew who she was. Everyone I met was taking about her. To me she was the chick from the Gotye song. But to be honest I didn't know her sound or body of work fully. The minute she stepped on stage I was blown off the building. Kimbra has magic in every sense of the word. Almost a vibrance and sound that's indescribable. I was swept.
